Our Favorite Open-Ended Toy Right Now: Hape Wooden Blocks

Recently, I bought this open-ended wooden block set from Hape, and honestly, I think it might be the most valuable toy purchase I've made so far. 🥹

I managed to get it for only SGD 15.05 from Shopee during the National Day Sale, thanks to MariBank's new-user voucher. At that price, I really couldn't resist!

What I love most about these blocks isn't even what I can build with them—it's how much my toddler enjoys playing with them together with me.

She loves watching me build something. Sometimes, she'll patiently watch as I arrange the blocks into a little structure... only to kick the whole thing down and burst out laughing. 😂

Other times, she'll take her Grimms' Friends and put them inside the little buildings or structures I've made. She also likes placing other little toys on top or around whatever I've built.

It's become our current favourite activity for spending time together.

I don't have any other open-ended wooden toys at the moment, and I have to admit that my imagination is pretty limited. 😂 So for now, I just keep things simple. I make little houses, towers, shelters, bridges, or whatever else I can think of—basically, anything that gives my daughter somewhere to put her Grimms' Friends.

And surprisingly, even these simple creations are enough to keep her interested.

These are some of the things I've built with the Hape blocks over the past few days. Nothing fancy, of course! 😆 I've also asked AI for some inspiration because, apparently, I need a little help when it comes to imagining what else I can build with a pile of wooden blocks. 😂

I think that's one of the things I enjoy about open-ended toys. There isn't really a "right" way to play with them. I can build something, my daughter can knock it down, and then we can start all over again.

For a toddler, that's probably more than enough.

And for me, it's a simple way to slow down, play together, and enjoy some time with her without needing a complicated toy or activity.

SGD 15.05 well spent. ❤️

Now I just need to figure out what to build next! 😂
